Nowadays there are still many behaviors against public morality, such as spiting or littering in public places, cutting in line, wasting water or electricity and so on.
One of the main reasons for these immoral behaviors is that some people lack personal manners and public consciousness. Actually these small things in many people's eyes have brought great bad effects on our community. Above all, these immoral behaviors disturb social order and disrupt socialsbility. Moreover, one's violating public morality not only evades others' benefits but also does harm to himself. For example, if most people buy pirated products, those original producers will suffer great damage and might lose the enthusiasm to continue their producing. Which in turn, influences consumers taking the profits into consideration, I think it is high time that we would take more effective measures to improve public morals.
First of all, education plays a very vital role. We must utilize education to make people know their behaviors influence on the society and follow public morals consciously. Besides the government should improve the administration system and ensure the efficient improvement of administration measures.
A recent investigation shows that about 80 percent of pupils have private tutors.
Such a popular practice indicates that people are attaching greater importance to education. Many parents, for various reasons, missed the chance of obtaining a good education. When their children meet with difficulties in study, they are helpless. Private tutoring is the only solution. As private tutoring is usually one-to-one. The teacher knows the strong points as well as the weak points of the pupil, clearly.
However, private tutoring has its own disadvantages. For one thing, it takes up so much of the pupils time that they can hardly find enough time for rest and entertainment. Which are essential for their physical and mental health. For another, some teachers, busy "shuttling"from one family to another, tend to neglect their regular teaching duties. What's more, some teachers are eager to help pupils do well in the test, offering the so-called tips for test-tasking rather than help them acquire what is more meaningful.
Generally speaking, its disadvantages outweigh its advantages. Greater emphasis should be laid on classroom teaching and practice, on the improvement of teaching quality and on the tapping of the pupils'potentials. Only in this way can a new generation be healthily brought up.
Dear Alice,
How nice to hear from you. You want to know what is going on in schools in China? Now, I will tell you about it.
In the past, exam-oriented education forced us to listen to our teachers while taking notes in class. We did all kinds of exercises without end, though it was 5 o’clock in the afternoon. After supper, we had to continue our exercises far into the night.
Now, quality-oriented education has made our school life colorful. We are active in class. In order to train the ability, we often do research on study. Sometimes one of us teaches ourselves. We have various outside activities, such as singing, dancing, English corner, and taking computer lessons. Basketball and football are our favorite sports. In the evening we can watch news on TV, do experiments by ourselves and have talks and discussions of our subjects.
Please make sure that our school life is getting more and more colorful and interesting.
Yours,
Li Hua

it was my first day at the university. carrying bags of luggage, i walked slowly into the dormitory building. i looked door after door for my name. at last i found it. in the room, there was already a girl making her bed.
smiling shyly, she greeted me with how do you do.then, she continued her work, paying no more attention to me.what a stuck up fellow, i thought. then i began to examine the room. it was no different from any other room i had seen.but it had been thoroughly cleaned by my new roommate, no doubt.minutes later, i started to examine her. she was thin, short and dark. her hair was in a completely disastrous mess like a bunch of straw. her dirty clothes and tired look were clearly signs of a long journey. well, her 2shirt was too big for her and her trousers were a bit short, which made her look funny.furthermore, she wore a pair of rubber scandals, which were indeed out of fashion. in a word, she did not look like a smart freshman at all. a yokel, i concluded.
the second time she spoke, her accent told me that she was from the south. shall i help you to get your luggage from the ground floor? i did not refuse since i really needed help. wow!she was quick in action. before i said thanks, she had already walked out of the room and was soon far ahead of me.
a good guy, i said to myself, i will make friends with her. i hurried and caught up with her.

An American friend has invited you to visit his family. You've never been to an American's home before, and you're not sure what to do. Should you take a gift? How should you dress? What time should you arrive? What should you do when you get there? Glad you asked. When you're the guest, you should just make yourself at home. That's what hospitality is all about: making people feel at home when they're not.
The question of whether or not to bring a gift often makes guests squirm. Giving your host a gift is not just a social nicety in some cultures-it's expected. But in American culture, a guest is not obligated to bring a present. Of course, some people do bring a small token of appreciation to their host. Appropriate gifts for general occasions might be flowers, candy or-if the family has small children-toys. If you choose not to bring a gift, don't worry. No one will even notice.
American hospitality begins at home-especially when it involves food. Most Americans agree that good home cooking beats restaurant food any day. When invited for a meal, you might ask, "Can I bring anything?" Unless it's a potluck, where everyone brings a dish, the host will probably respond, "No, just yourself." For most informal dinners, you should wear comfortable, casual clothes. Plan to arrive on time, or else call to inform your hosts of the delay. During the dinner conversation, it's customary to compliment the hostess on the wonderful meal. Of course, the biggest compliment is to eat lots of food!
When you've had plenty, you might offer to clear the table or wash the dishes. But since you're the guest, your hosts may not let you. Instead, they may invite everyone to move to the living room for dessert with tea or coffee. After an hour or so of general chit-chat, it's probably time to head for the door. You don't want to wear out your welcome. And above all, don't go snooping around the house. It's more polite to wait for the host to offer you a guided tour. But except for housewarmings, guests often don't get past the living room.
Americans usually like to have advance notice when people come to see them. Only very close friends drop by unannounced. This is especially true if the guests want to stay for a few days. Here's a good rule of thumb for house guests: Short stays are best. As one 19th century French writer put it, "The first day a man is a guest, the second a burden, the third a pest." Even relatives don't usually stay for several weeks at a time. While you're staying with an American family, try to keep your living area neat and tidy. Your host family will appreciate your consideration. And they may even invite you back!
Most Americans consider themselves hospitable people. Folks in the southern United States, in particular, take pride in entertaining guests. In fact, "southern hospitality" has become legendary. But in all parts of America, people welcome their guests with open arms. So don't be surprised to find the welcome mat out for you. Just don't forget to wipe your feet.
