胡里奥·依格莱希亚斯1943年9月23日出生于西班牙马德里。其父为当地名医，母亲出身名门，因而，家资殷富。早年曾有志于当外交官，17岁时，胡里奥·依格莱希亚斯进英国剑桥大学攻读法律，并取得律师资格。此后，又加入西班牙著名的“皇马”俱乐部足球队，成为该队活跃的守门员。由于他出色的球艺和超群的弹跳力，而被称为“美洲豹”。然而，在他20岁时，却意外地遭受了沉重的打击：因车祸而负重伤。面对莫测的未来和伤痛的折磨，他在孤独中终于找到了他最好的解脱——音乐，同时也找到了他终生的挚友——吉它。整整三年，椅上的胡里奥.依格莱希亚斯意外地发现了自己的歌唱艺术才华而重新开辟了自己的人生道路。
