On the afternoon of that exciting day, I guessed vaguely from my mother's signs and from the hurrying to and fro in the house that something unusual was about to happen, so I went to the door and waited on the steps. I felt approaching footsteps. I thought it was my mother and stretched out my hand. Someone took it, and then I was caught up and held close in the arms of the person who had come to reveal all things to me, and, more important than that, to love me. The morning after my teacher came she led me into her room and gave me a doll. When I had played with it a little while, Miss Sullivan slowly spelled into my hand the word “d-o-l-l”. I was at once interested in this finger play and tried to imitate it. When I finally succeeded in making the letters correctly I was filled with childish pleasure and pride. Running downstairs to my mother I held up my hand and made the letters for doll. I did not know that I was spelling a word or even that words existed; I simply made my fingers go in monkey-like imitation. In the days that followed I learned to spell in this uncomprehending way many words, among them, “pin”, “hat”, “cup”, and a few verbs like “sit”, “stand” and “walk”, but my teacher had been with me several weeks before I understood that everything has a name. One day while I was playing with my new doll, Miss Sullivan gave me my old doll, too. She then spelled “d-o-l-l” and tried to make me understand that “d-o-l-l” applied to both. Earlier in the day, we had a struggle over the two words “m-u-g” is “mug” and “w-a-t-e-r” is “water” , but I persisted in mixing up the two. I became impatient and, seizing the new doll, I dashed it on the floor, breaking it into pieces. I was not sorry after my fit of temper. In the dark, still world, I had no strong sentiment for anything. My teacher brought me my hat, and I knew we were going out into the warm sunshine. We walked down the path to the well-house. Someone was drawing water, and my teacher placed my hand under the spout. As the cool stream gushed over one hand, she spelled into the other word water, first slowly, then rapidly. I stood still; my whole attention was fixed upon the movements of her finger. Suddenly I seemed to remember something I had forgotten — a thrill of returning thought – and the mystery of language was revealed to me. I knew then that the “w-a-t-e-r” meant that wonderful cool something that was flowing over my hand. That living word awakened my soul and set it free. I left the well-house eager to learn. Everything had a name and each name gave birth to a new thought. As we returned to the house, every object which I touched seemed to be full of life. That was because I saw everything with a strange, new sight that had come to me. On entering the door I remembered the doll I had broken. I felt my way to the fragments and tried in vain to put them together. Then my eyes were filled with tears, for I realized what I had done, and for the first time I felt sorry. I learned a lot of new words that day. It would have been difficult to find a happier child than me when I lay in my small bed that night and thought of the joys that day had brought to me, and for the first time I longed for a new day to come.。

Freedom is what I am looking forward to since the very first day of my primary school. A lot of people said to me, "Study hard, and you will get freedom when in university." In a word, I have to do everything and take care of myself. Well, it doesn‘t mean that I don‘t like the life style. On the contrary, I like it very much though it is hard at the beginning. It is really a challenge for me.
I appreciate a famous saying from Albert Camus, "Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better." That‘s right. Real freedom comes with responsibility. Some teenagers believe that freedom means doing whatever you like. But I think that is not real freedom at all. One can have his or her own freedom, while at the same time respect others‘. It is not easy to think on behalf of others. University life provides me with this precious chance to practice it.
Another thing I want to mention is love. Love in the university is different from other places. In my secondary school, love among students are strictly forbidden. But since it is human nature to desire for something that is not allowed, there are still some some lovebirds flying around us. Parents and teachers are unwilling to see it happen. They make great efforts to stop these birds flying. I still remember two of my friends who were threatened to leave school by my teachers finally had to end their puppy love, though unwillingly.
But now, something interesting in Fudan is that love exists everywhere. For instance, the first lesson of my English class is about love. A small play in the Yingxin (Freshmen Welcome Party) called "Turn Left and Turn Right" is about students love in Fudan. Some of my roommates have boyfriends. At night,while lying in bed, we always share their love stories. What‘s more, even our instructor once said, "In our department, girls are more than boys. So we will have a party with the Chemistry Department, the situation in which is just the opposite. I was surprised about the attitude towards love here. Is our instructor encouraging us to find someone to fall in love with? I cannot understand it quite well.
What I mentioned above are the two things impressed me most at the very beginning of my freshmen year. They are surely my first impression, and I am sure with the process of my university life I will get more out of it.

I have a simple schedule in my binder. I only have six classes everyday.
My first and second period is Esl1. ley is my Esl1 class teacher. Esl1 is an English class in my schedule.
PE is my third period class. I love PE very much. But it’s not my favorite class on my schedule. I love this class because I can exercise everyday and can play with my friends.
My forth period is Band. I love band. That’s my favorite subject on my schedule. I played trumpet. We have lots of free days in the band class and Mrs.W is nice to us. She always said we can have a party if you guys do well in the concert. Thanks god I could change to band.
Then, I have lunch. Kelvin always buys lunch for me. I love lunch time. I can talk and play with my best friends. There’re some good and bad memories for lunch time.
Last, I have physical science. I like this class because in this class, I can sit with my three best friends. Thanks lets us sitting together. But my science grade is not good. I’ll do better in my science class.
Finally, Algebra 1 is my last period on the schedule. I had Algebra Fundamentals before, but now, I moved a grade up. So I’m happy and son changed the seat. So I was sitting with Belle and Justin in my math class.

The 3-D pavement art festival was an important part of the Dubai Canvas Festival.(The Dubai Canvas Festival celebrates art and culture with different themes each year.)During the festival ,top international 3-D artists used chalk or paint to crate their 3-D artworks on the pavement .Many of the artworks showed eye-catching pictures of Dubai.Take a chalk drawing by US artist Kurt Wenner for example .In the artwork,people could see a boy sitting on a traditional fishing boat with other children around. Dubai's famous high-rise buildings were in the background. The 3-D drawing was so vivid that many vistors liked to sit on it and take photos.
The organizers of the art festival said they hoped to turn Dubai into an open-air art museum and make everyone enjoy the fun and beauty of art.

My mother has been teaching maths at a middle school in my home town. She goes to the school early in the morning and does not return home until late in the afternoon. She loves her students and cares for them. She treats them with patience and teaches them well. For her excellent qualities and very good teaching results, she is always praised and respected by both her students and colleagues alike. And she has been chosen or elected as a model teacher several times.
My mother is a thrifty and industrious woman. She never buys expensive or fancy dresses for herself; she goes occasionally to buy some inexpensive and high-quality clothes for us. She never goes to luxurious restaurants to enjoy expensive meals. She merely eats a humble meal outside when she is too busy. She lives a busy yet simple life, without any complaints. As soon as she comes back from school, she sets about doing housework: sweeping the living room and bedreooms or cleaning the furniture, and putting everything in good order. Besides, she prepares nice dishes for us to eat. She seems to be on the go all the time. As she has been very busy working hard every day, she looks older than she really is. Her face is wrinkled, and her hair has turned silver white. But she looks as cheerful and happy as ever.
Often she says to us, "Work while you work, and play while you play. That is the way to be happy and gay. If you do not work, you will become lazy and of no use to society." What a piece of good advice this is! I never forget it and always bear it in my mind. This advice of hers will always serve as a guide to my action. My mother is great indeed, and I always feel proud of her.
